AKF Class of 2006 Awarded $636,000 in Merit Scholarships; 100 Percent to Attend College

The Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School class of 2006, the school's first-ever graduating class, as amassed an amazing total of $636,000 in merit scholarship money. This achievement is even more impressive given the small size of the class - only 20 students.

We are also very proud of the fact that every member of the graduating class will be attending college in the fall. The students' success was due to their hard work and to the dililgent support of Guidance Counselor Susan Schoenberger, who provided the seniors with consistent, personalized college counseling. Representatives of more than 40 colleges visited AKF in the fall of 2005, and AKF students have quickly earned a reputation for being highly sought after for their academic performance, work habits, and citizenship.

AKF Enrollment Wait List Reaches 750 Students

The Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School Enrollment wait list has now reached 750 students from grades K-12.

AKF was founded by a group of concerned parents and community leaders who believed that the families of Worcester County deserved more opportunities to make choices regarding the education of their children. As a charter school, one of the fundamental purposes of AKF is to create such an opportunity for increased choice.

The recent growth of our wait list is a powerful affirmation that we are offering a choice that parents truly value. The school is already planning for expansion beginning in the fall of 2007, when we can begin expanding our enrollment toward a new cap of 1,426 students (the current cap is 1,176).
