Embodying kindness, one of the character virtues celebrated by AKF, the Mercado sisters - Alina, Jaiden, and Destinee - willingly underwent haircuts and donated a total of 32 inches of their hair to Locks of Love. Locks of  Love is a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children 18 years and younger suffering from long-term medical hair loss. The organization meets a unique need by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. The prostheses provided by Locks of Love help to restore self-esteem and confidence, enabling children to face the world and their peers. Fellow AKF student Olivia Painchaud also made a donation of her hair in February.
