Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School offers all students nutritional meals daily. Children need healthy meals to learn and participate in school activities. Students may bring lunch and/or breakfast from home or purchase the meals from the school food services.

All families are asked to complete and return a Massachusetts Free and Reduced Price School Meals Household Application form (one per family) at the beginning of each school year.  Families may be eligible for free or reduced meal prices based on income status.  If for some reason there is an income change during the year, please notify Diane Mikulski at x 2635, as you may be eligible for free or reduced prices at that time.  If you do not want to apply, please write in the name(s) of your student(s) and write “not applicable”, then sign and return. That way we know you have received/seen the application but are not interested.

 Also, did you know…….
  1.  New nutrition standards require even more whole grains, fruits and vegetables, while limiting sodium and calories in school meals.
  2. School meals are never super-sized! Federal law requires every school meal to provide age-appropriate portions.
  3. Federal law prohibits the sale of soda in the cafeteria ~ every school meal comes with low-fat or fat-free milk.
  4. Every school lunch offers students their choice of at least two servings of fruits and vegetables.
  5. Fat-free flavored milk has the same 9 essential nutrients as white milk, including calcium, protein, vitamin A and D, and potassium.
  6. School lunches meet strict limits on fat ~~ no more than 30% of calories can come from fat and less than 10% from saturated fat.

Please Note:  We will be sending outstanding meal balance notices home via e-mail monthly. Please see that information is always updated with the school, should it change. If you have any questions/concerns about the notices please contact Diane J. Mikulski, Director of Food Services.
