In support of Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School’s mission, the counseling department works to assist all students in developing the academic, career, and personal/social skills needed to become lifelong learners and responsible citizens in a diverse and ever-changing community.
The school counselor is a great resource for your child, someone at the school who can listen to his concerns or help him deal with some of his frustrations. Our role as a school counselor involves working with the students in a variety of ways. Each week we will hold lunch groups with different groups of students, where we will address such issues as impulse control, self-esteem and social skills. We will also meet with some students individually, sometimes for a series of meeting where we will work together on a certain topic, and sometimes for just a quick check in to make sure they are on the right track and feeling secure in the school setting. With all these activities, the main focus is always the support of the student’s learning.
All students need the right tools to deal with life’s challenges and help them become successful and positive members in their communities. Our goal as counselors is to be accessible to every student, but we also want to be accessible to all families. Please feel free to contact us, at 508-854-8400 ext. 3647 or by email [email protected] or [email protected] with any questions or concerns you may have about your child, or the school counseling program. We look forward to working with you and your child this year!
